Samsonite Retail is working on LEED Interior Design and Construction (ID+C) certification with a target of Gold. The retail is located on B4 at ION Orchard, Singapore. With a floor area of 183 m2, the retail incorporates many sustainable features, such as efficient LED lighting, healthy and sustainable materials, and biophilic design. The project pays high attention to responsible construction by minimising construction waste and environmental impacts.
GreenA Consultants’ Involvement
GreenA, as the ESD consultant, intensively assisted the client in achieving the certification by providing constructive advice to improve the design and construction activities along the process.
Efficient Lighting Fixtures
Samsonite utilised lighting fixtures that are all LED with up to 30% more energy savings than traditional light bulbs. The lighting fixtures are tunable as well, offering balanced lighting conditions to enhance customers’ comfort and wellbeing. With a Colour Rendering Index of >90, the lighting fixtures can render the store items’ visualisation close to being put under the sun.
Efficient Electrical Equipment
Aware of the responsible practice of its shop equipment, Samsonite applies efficient electrical equipment that are EnergyStar certified to support their day-to-day activity.
Enhanced Commissioning
To ensure smooth and appropriate performance of the retail store, Samsonite underwent enhanced commissioning that checks and tests all building operation equipment, such as the HVAC system, lighting fixtures, and energy meter. By performing such initiatives, Samsonite Retail could identify any issue and mitigate it as early as possible.
Biophilic Design
Samsonite Retail at ION Orchard incorporates a green wall that contains micro-vegetations and is maintained regularly. Samsonite also put many wooden accessories and accents on the store to provide a sense of calmness and nature.
Responsible Construction Activity
The construction process ensured responsible sourcing of materials as well as responsible waste management. Samsonite implemented a carefully planned construction waste management system.
