Come 2040, all existing container port terminals in Singapore (Tanjong Pagar, Pasir Panjang, Keppel and Brani) will be relocated to a single location in Tuas at the Southwestern end. The Next Generation Port (NGP) in Tuas represents the future of Maritime Singapore in its scale and capability. The entire project will be completed in 4 phases, of which Phase 1 is expected to start in 2021.
THE WORLD’S LARGEST FULLY AUTOMATED TERMINAL
The NGP is expected to be the world’s largest fully automated terminal in a single location, with the ability to handle 65 million twenty-foot containers, providing services that can serve a high number of large ships. This helps to keep Singapore competitive.
INTELLIGENT, SUSTAINABLE AND GREEN
When container ships berth at the NGP, automated guided vehicles that are electric and driverless will be picking up the containers and transporting them between the wharf and the yard. These vehicles have a carbon footprint that is 25 percent smaller than regular vehicles, making the port greener and more sustainable.
DATA AND TECHNOLOGY
Data and Technology will also be used at the NGP to help predict arrival times for ships, to allow faster turnaround times and to help them with just-in-time port calls. Intelligent control systems will also be used to help predict traffic hotspots for ships, letting the ship master plan the best route to take, and preventing possible collisions in busy waterways.
GREEN TERMINALS IN THE PORT – GREENA CONSULTANTS’ INVOLVEMENT
To reduce carbon emissions, PSA is looking to develop green terminals in the port. The Tuas Port Maintenance Base will consist of 8 buildings maintaining the port facilities.
The Administrative Building will be the first major building and the first Super Low Energy Building (SLEB) to be completed in PSA Singapore Tuas Port, projected to achieve energy savings of 58% over the baseline building design.
This translates to an Energy Utilization Index (EUI) of 98kWh/m²/year compared to the baseline EUI of 235Wh/m²/year. With PSA’s plans to incorporate rooftop PVs for the entire Tuas Maintenance Base which will generate electricity of 2,795 MWh/year, the energy consumption of the Tuas Maintenance Base would be offset by renewable energies, making it a Zero Energy development.
BUILDING INTEGRATED PHOTO-VOLTAICS (BIPV)
Free from any shade, the Administrative Building is ideal for the installation of building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) modules in place of regular cladding in the northern, southern and western façades of the building without adding redundant layers. BIPV is one of the promising renewable energy technologies, and its use in parts of a building envelope such as the roof, skylights and facades will generate sustainable PV power.
HYBRID EVAPORATIVE COOLING SYSTEM
GreenA conceptualized the cooling system, where the mixed-mode versatile system is designed to respond to various weather conditions by combining different cooling technologies such as free cooling, heat recovery cooling and evaporative cooling to achieve thermal comfort for the users. Precision Secondary Pumping System. This is used to replace the conventional primary-pumping system by using the latest digital technologies to deliver chilled water based on precise demand control.
Variable Air Volume (VAV)
Thermal diffusers integrated with Electronically Commutated (EC) Fan Coil Units (FCUs) to allow greater part-load controls to harness energy savings
