NUS Techno Edge Building

Newly revamped NUS Canteen achieves Green-Mark Platinum and SLEB Status.

NUS Techno Edge Building

This project is funded by the NUS Green Bond after the university successfully raised SGD300million to power sustainability projects under its new Green Finance Framework. It is believed that NUS is first university in Asia to launch a framework on sustainability linked finance, and to issue a green bond. This project Utilizing passive and active strategies as well as on-site solar generation to achieve SLEB status. NUS Techno Edge is a 4-storey canteen and institutional use building, located inside NUS campus between the Engineering and School of Design faculty. The 1,000-seater canteen will be part of NUS’ expanding green precinct.

Energy Conservation

The largest contribution to the building’s energy consumption is Air conditioning and lighting systems. The building is equipped with 100% LED lighting with photosensors and motion sensors which can provide about 52% of energy savings. The Air conditioning has been designed with a weighted Design System Efficiency (DSE) of 0.72 kW/RT. AHU units are installed with MERV14 filters to maintain Indoor Air Quality during times of pollution.

CFD Simulation for Natural Ventilation

Conceptualizing air flow modelling for green building helps optimize HVAC (Heating, VentilatIon and Air-Conditioning) designs and performance is foreseen before adoption or execution of systems; allowing proposals for flawless and productive designing most vital for sustainability improvement.

Fresh air is driven through the building, creating healthier, more ambient spaces for everyone without the compromise on occupant and thermal comfort. While it is best to integrate these systems at the earliest possible stage, natural ventilation can be also be introduced as part of a retrofitting project for existing buildings.
