The NTU Hostel, with a GFA of 10,033.31 sqm, is targeting Green Mark 2021 GoldPlus certification. As the ESD Consultant, GreenA has identified the following key green features to be implemented in the hostel.
Resilience
The NTU Hostel will establish and adopt sustainable policies and action plans for energy, waste, and water management. 90% of all water fittings will have a 3-tick WELS rating. Dedicated facilities for the collection and storage of e-waste (in collaboration with a PRS operator) and packaging waste will demonstrate a strong commitment to waste management. Additionally, landscaped areas with diverse plant species will enhance the natural environment on site.
Whole Life Carbon
The hostel will incorporate low-carbon concrete and SGBP-certified products with at least 2 ticks for architectural and landscape works. Fit-out products in common areas and tenanted spaces will also meet this 2-tick SGBP standard.
Furthermore, Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction (PPVC) modules will be utilized for the main building, staircases, and corridors, reducing material waste and improving construction efficiency.
Health and Wellbeing
The NTU Hostel aims to conduct Periodic (Post) Occupancy Evaluations (POE) at least once every three years. Permanent provisions of portable air cleaners with HEPA filters will be installed in non-air-conditioned functional spaces to ensure good air quality. The hostel will also adhere to the NTU Campus no-smoking policy. To enhance occupants’ well-being, the design will include accessible courtyards, fixed indoor planting, natural elements, and direct visual access to greenery.
Intelligence
The NTU Hostel will implement Project Information Modeling (PIM), also known as Building Information Modeling (BIM), to integrate work processes and connect stakeholders across the building’s design, construction, operation, and retrofitting phases. PIM will also be used for spatial analysis, including identifying system clashes and optimizing spatial layouts.
