Located near Khatib MRT Station, upgrading works are in progress for Nee Soon South CC to be SLEB-compliant and dementia-friendly. The building will utilize passive and active green design technologies to achieve the sustainable goals that translate the building into Healthy, Energy Efficient and Smart Building. Green building technologies will optimize the building performance thus reducing energy consumption by more than 50%.
The building will also have smart energy management systems, which employ the use of technology to reduce energy consumption of lights as well as plug load, or the energy used by equipment that is plugged into an outlet. This project is and is aimed to increase public awareness on sustainability and green technologies. Building users will be able to monitor their daily energy and water usage and will be encouraged and educated on judicious resource management.
To better meet the residents’ needs, Nee Soon South CC will also incorporate dementia-friendly features to help the elderly navigate the building with ease. These include zoning areas in the CC by colour and the use of clear signages in fonts that are large and easy to read.
“Climate change is a major issue, and we have to do whatever we can to reduce our carbon emissions. The upgraded CC is designed to have net zero energy consumption, by reducing consumption and offsetting it with the energy from solar panels.”- Dr. Lee Bee Wah, Nee Soon South’s grassroots adviser
