The main aim of the protocol is to drive Panama’s construction industry towards more environmentally-friendly building development.

Objectives:

  • Incorporate environmental practices in government buildings in Panama and reduce resources used
  • To provide an effective benchmarking tool to promote continual improvement of life cycle in buildings.

The Eco-Protocol:

The Eco-Protocol included building a green building rating system to assess governmental buildings for its environmental impact and performance. This is a comprehensive framework to evaluate the overall environmental performance.

Some of the assessment criteria include:

  • Existing infrastructure and site management
  • Energy efficiency and conservation
  • C02 reduction calculation
