As part of its principal function in administration of mosques development and management in Singapore, MUIS has developed a sustainable approach for mosque upgrading works. This is part of their effort to preserve legacies and equity, as defined in their vision: Sustainable Assets, Nurturing Generations with a mission to improve the lives of beneficiaries and preserve legacies for future generations.
GreenA Consultants’ Involvement
GreenA is appointed as the Green Mark Zero Energy and GBIC consultant. Our role includes selection and review of the technologies, providing additional solutions, advising MUIS on the best strategy to achieve Zero Energy, and managing the entire GBIC application process.
The proposed technologies are as follows:
Coated Solar Thermal Air Conditioning System + PDC by Ecoline – GreenA
Coated Solar Thermal Air Conditioning System is an innovative cooling technology that combines solar thermal energy with specialized coatings to enhance system efficiency and performance. The systems add heat absorbing coating to condenser and moisture absorbing coating on evaporator. Passive displacement Cooling (PDC) is an innovative air distribution system that closely resembles the displacement ventilation system. In both systems, air is supplied at the floor level and extracted from the room at the ceiling level. With Coated Solar Thermal Air Conditioning System + PDC, the system achieves over 30% increased efficiency, boasting an impressive Coefficient of Performance (COP) of 7.
Smart EC fans by EBM-papst
For the mosque’s 15-meter-high main prayer hall, the design team plans to implement stack ventilation, allowing hot air to be expelled through the roof while cooler air flows in from the entrance level.
The fans will feature advanced high-level controls, enabling independent speed adjustments based on various sensed parameters such as differential pressure, rain conditions, occupancy levels, and preset schedules. This sophisticated control system ensures optimal operation and precise monitoring of fan performance, enhancing both energy efficiency and comfort.
Uniform Smart Lighting System by OTTO
An intelligent lighting network designed to deliver consistent, efficient, and adaptable lighting across designated spaces. This innovative system includes uniform recessed ceiling lighting for enhanced lighting uniformity (Prayer areas).
Energy Storage Solution (ESS) by Vflow tech
EES is used to generate and store enough energy that allows the building to operate with 100% renewable energy. With EES, the battery is designed to minimize reliance on the grid by directly supplying DC current to the electric lighting system, effectively eliminating transmission losses. It serves as a backup power source, replacing traditional gensets, and ensures a constant energy supply during cloudy periods and night operations.
Additionally, the battery is future-ready and capable of powering EV chargers. As a potentially groundbreaking project, this building could become the first in Singapore to operate independently from the grid, serving as a showcase model for replication across other developments.
