James Cook University (JCU), located at 149 Sims Dr, Singapore 387380, is a higher learning institution housed in a four-storey building comprising five blocks (A, B, C, D, E) that include offices, libraries, canteens, laboratories, auditoriums, and classrooms. Established in 2015, the campus spans with GFA of 18,823 m². They achieved Green Mark Healthier Workplaces for 2 offices in Block A and Block E too. JCU is targeting Green Mark 2021 Super Low Energy (SLE). GreenA Consultants as the ESD consultant conducted a gap analysis and proposed for higher certification of Green Mark GoldPlus or Platinum SLE.

The Energy Usage Index (EUI) requirement for GM SLE certification is 90 kWh/sqm/year. JCU is expected to achieve an impressive EUI of 73.27 kWh/sqm/year. With an Air-Conditioning Total System Efficiency (TSE) of 0.62 kW/RT and on-site renewable energy sources, JCU successfully meets the Green Mark SLE with Pathway 1 requirements.
Energy Usage Index
Based on electricity bill from April 2024 to August 2024, the pro-rated EUI is 88.775 kWh/sqm/year. With expected solar generation of 479,544 kWh/ year after its installation in April 2024, the EUI would be reduced to 73.27 kWh/sqm/year.
To achieve Green Mark GoldPlus, JCU has complied to Green Mark 5 Sustainability Sections with minimum 30 points. GreenA do the gap analysis for the five sections of Green Mark:
Resilience
JCU complies with PUB’s Water Efficiency Building (WEB) certification and is drafting a sustainable procurement policy. Points can be earned through e-waste bins, waste segregation, and reuse of packaging materials. GreenA recommends appointing internal and external waste auditors.

JCU can score points as the existing structures are conserved and not demolished.
Health and Wellbeing
JCU supports bicycle lots, standing desks, and height-adjustable tables. It has conducted POE and IAQ audits (Feb & May 2023) and ensures access to nature. Spaces like the communal garden and dance studio are recognized as restorative spaces.
Intelligence
JCU will provide a managerial dashboard, register with the BCA-SLEB Smart Hub, and submit documents for adaptive ACMV control systems and lighting control systems.
