The HDB Centre of Building Research (CBR) achieved the Green Mark ENRB4.0 Platinum certification in 2024 and is now targeting Green Mark 2021 Platinum Super Low Energy with a Maintainability badge, as well as Green Mark Healthier Workplaces 2018 GoldPlus. Located at 10 Woodlands Avenue 8, Singapore 738973, the HDB CBR comprises a 4-storey Main Building and a 3-storey Annex Building, with a total Gross Floor Area (GFA) of 20,839.66 sqm. As the ESD Consultant, GreenA has identified key green features in the development to support these sustainability goals.
Energy Efficiency
HDB CBR is going through Pathway 2 of Energy Efficiency (Fixed Metrics). The Non-AC area of the Main Building is 71.23% of the total, while Annex Building has a Non-AC area of 31.96%, both of which meet SLE energy efficiency standards. The mechanical ventilation for the Main building is 0.12 W/cmh and for the Annex building it is 0.05 W/cmh, both meeting the requirement of 0.25 W/cmh. The lighting and cassette units (CU) will be retrofitted to meet the efficiency of GM SLE standards.
On-site Renewables
The estimated installable system capacity is 100.40 kWp, with an estimated energy production of 130,234 kWh. These figures are based on the installation of 251 modules.
Resilience
HDB CBR can adopt energy, waste, water, and green procurement policies aligned with Green Gov Initiatives. With recycling facilities, receptacles for packaging waste and beverage containers, and a waste audit, HDB CBR can achieve points under RE 2.2 Circularity.
Whole Life Carbon
HDB CBR can earn 5 points for Sustainable Products and Finishes by using SGBP-certified materials with at least 2 ticks for architectural and MEP systems.
Health and Wellbeing
The circular staircase at the lift lobby meets Green Mark requirements. HDB CBR also complies with Periodic POE and IAQ Audits, conducted at least once every three years. Accessible planted sky terraces, courtyards, rooftop gardens, and fixed indoor planting fulfill the access to nature requirement.
Intelligence
HDB CBR can earn points for data management facilitation, and the asset tagging system initiative. The indoor air quality monitoring system with zonal control is an innovative feature that can further enhance compliance.
