Darul Makmur Mosque, Darusaalam Mosque and Al-Raudhah Mosque is targeted to achieve Super Low Energy Building (SLEB) status while the Alkaff Kampung Melayu Mosque will be Net-Zero Energy Building (ZEB) certified.
The mosques will focus on passive design to enhance thermal comfort and minimise artificial cooling demand, active design including efficient lighting, cooling and mechanical spaces, smart design (controls, monitoring, facilities energy savings) and renewable energy for the Alkaff Kampung Melayu Mosque.
IAQ is also emphasised with the provision of naturally ventilated common areas. As a civic open public space, proper air change requirements are needed. The new design will flush out air impurities within the enclosed space.
Water Efficiency and Conservation: The function of the space requires high water demand. Water fittings will be replaced with WELS certified fittings. Water used for ablution will also be collected for non-potable reuse.
A strategy combination of cool paints, BIPV and EETV will reduce heat gain by at least 20% and daylighting solutions will reduce energy consumption by an estimate of 10-15%.
Using a high distribution air distribution and fan assisted hybrid AC system with smart control and hybrid mode will reduce AC energy consumption by 10-15%. Additional savings of 20- 30% will be introduced in the form of mechanical ventilation. The Alkaff mosque will reap energy savings further with the installation for solar PV.
Renewable Energy
The Alkaff Kampung mosque, will be installed with Solar PV panels with an estimated generation of 300,000kWh to offset its energy consumption.
By reducing demand by improving thermal mass, using efficient systems, operating the buildings efficiently through smart control systems and the use of renewable energy, SLEBs and ZEBs are achieved.
