Keeping Up With The Carbon “Game”

Looking ahead: 4th Singapore Green Building Masterplan and Greenmark 2021

4-min read

A word from our Founder, Farizan d’Avezac deMoran

In February 2021, our government released the Singapore Green Plan 2030, highlighting the key sustainability targets in creating a more climate-resilient Singapore.

This plan was developed by five ministries in Singapore: Ministry of Education, Ministry of National Development, Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ministry of Transport.

There are 5 key pillars:

  • City in Nature
  • Energy Reset
  • Sustainable Living
  • Resilient Future
  • Green Economy

With an 80-80-80 target by 2030, it is aggressive but do-able.

  • 80% of our buildings to be green by 2030
  • 80% Improvement in Energy Efficiency for Best-In-Class Green Buildings by 2030 (New)
  • 80% of New Developments to be Super-Low Energy Buildings from 2030 onwards (New)

Being on the Green Building Advisory Committee taskforce representative, it is a pleasure to be part of the conduit in seeing this happen. Many would worry about how achievable this is and on construction cost questions. SLEB was launched in 2018, and this has enabled the industry to pilot on the probability, which has been positive. With the new upcoming Green Mark 2021, most of this will be streamlined and simplified for roll-out implementation.

Here is a line-up of some green building incentives that you can consider tapping and you can always reach out to us with regard to anything else.

  • Grant for Low-GWP Refrigerant Chillers (LoGR)
  • Building Retrofit Energy Efficiency Financing (BREEF)
  • Green Building Innovation Cluster (GBIC) Demo

I am glad to be on board as the Vice President for Singapore Institute of Building Limited and Chairing the Environment & Sustainability Committee. SIBL is a trade association, part of the Construction Industry Joint Committee (CIJC) and represents all from the building industry.

Along with the rest of the Board members, President Dr. Sussie Ketit and Honorary Adviser Dr. Teo Ho Pin, we will together move forward sealing tighter and firmer in meeting the sustainability goals of the built environment.

To work together as equal and to hear each other out is the path to a successful collaboration. This year, as GreenA continues to expand and build partnerships beyond her 12th Anniversary, we would like to give our heartfelt thanks to all our clients, partners as well as contacts for their support and their belief in the concept of sustainability for all.
